...'worked in youth lockup for well over 6 years of my Life... a precursor to where this fellow(below) ended up for a spell...
...beautiful modern day cafeteria...BEAUTIFUL!--as good as it gets. But it was empty of any of the "lockups" being able to eat there because of the spontaneous and sometimes "planned" fights between individuals and gangs... "MY" take-away? I disagree with the below fella's offhand comment about most being "dumb"... I saw conditions, conditioning, and lack of resources and CARE as what I was looking at and dealing with... I saw many young adults wanting better...seriously TRYING for better... ...but falling back into the low-flow of the status quo... IN MY NOT SO HUMBLE OPINION... ...because of lack of care and support in SO many places and ways that could EASILY be fixed for many if America's priorities were to provide 1. BETTER EARLY EDUCATION (pre-school for all) 2. Affordable housing, better piece-of-the-pie wages for workers 3. Better schools with lower teacher to student ratios---and more tutoring available to those who need it... 4. More community outreach programs. Apprenticeships to prepare young folks for trades, jobs, advanced post-high school education... college. |
